All polling places in West Virginia are equipped with at least one ADA approved Voting Machine.
If your polling place is not accessible for individuals with disabilities, you may request a transfer of registration. However, this request must be received by the County Clerk no later than 30 days prior to the date of the election. If you have missed the 30 day deadline, you may vote a provisional ballot in the county in which you are registered.
An individual may receive assistance in voting if he or she is unable to vote for any of the following reasons:
Inability to read and write
Upon being read the offices and candidates on the ballot or as they appear on the electronic voting machine screen, the voter physically marks his or her intended choices on the ballot or screen.
However, if the voter is physically unable to mark his or her choices on the ballot or screen, the voter may declare his or her choices to two poll workers of opposing political parties who may make the selections according to the voter's wishes.
As a last resort, voters who cannot enter the polling place and who qualify for assistance may vote from an automobile outside the polling place or precinct by the absentee balloting method if the following conditions are met:
The polling place is not accessible; and
No voters are voting or waiting to vote inside the polling place (or the poll is closed temporarily to allow the two poll workers to assist the voter at his or her automobile).
Voters with physical disabilities who cannot vote in person may apply to vote absentee by mail.
Absentee Voting Information
Voters who cannot vote in person and cannot mark their ballot without assistance due to a physical disability may vote electronically.
Electronic Absentee for Voters with Physical Disabilities
Any voter who requests assistance in voting but who is believed not to be qualified for assistance shall, nevertheless, be permitted to vote a provisional ballot with the assistance of any person herein authorized to give assistance.
